On another topic...oh wait...it's still exams

So,
this is our first year using Exam4. I’m pleased to report that we’ve
had almost no problems with it thus far (but of course, exams just started this
week and while we had 1L practice exams, we had just a couple midterms). The
biggest problem we’ve had is really not an Exam4 issue; we use a secure
wireless connection to upload and have the students connect and authenticate
prior to the exam but half the time, the authentication (not the connection)
isn’t restored for electronic submittal. Easy fix…they exit Exam4,
re-authenticate, then get back into the s’ware and submit the exam. It’s
far more problematic on Macs; most of the time they have to turn off their Airport,
get on the open wireless, then reconnect on the secure wireless. I’m
hoping to figure out how to use the open wireless for next semester.

We
also had several students who did not download the new version after midterms
and were dismayed to find out the day of the exam that the software had
expired. Our previous software was good for the entire academic year, and even
though I sent no less than 4 emails stating that they must reinstall, some of
them just don’t pay attention. In that case, we made them write that exam
in blue books and told them to download the current version for next time.

Other
than that, we’ve been problem free…knock on wood…

Cyndi,

I have had some issues with submitting electronically but far fewer than yours. It's more common in MACs since the airport needs at least 30 seconds to re-connect ,on some PCs  they need to login again to re-authenticate to ACS through AD.  I can't find a fixed pattern and would be happy to find out what's causing this, perhaps Greg can help figure this out.
